Pontoon Beach, IL (July 20th, 2012) Tri-City Speedway paid tribute to a St. Louis area racing legend at the beginning of the night. The track held the Russ Wallace Memorial in honor of Russ Wallace, who passed away unexpectedly last Fall. Two of Russ Wallace’s sons were on hand for the event along with several grand children and many former racers who competed against Russ Wallace. Son’s Mike and Kenny Wallace were at the event and Kenny competed in the UMP DIRTcar Modified division. A big field of cars were also on hand as 122 cars signed in to compete in the five divisions.

The largest field of cars were the UMP DIRTcar Late Model division as thirty cars signed in to compete. Randy Korte would dominate the main event and earn his third feature win of 2012 at Tri-City Speedway. Korte took the lead at the drop of the green flag and pulled away to a commanding lead. Chad Zobrist and Dewayne Kiefer would have a fierce battle for the second spot for most of the event, while a slew of cars were charging from deep in the field towards the front. Kiefer would get the second spot late in the race and go on and finish second. Tim Manville would charge from the eleventh starting spot to steal third from Zobrist late in the race. Zobrist would finish fourth. Kevin Cole would charge all the way from the seventeenth starting spot to finish fifth. Jerry Lierly would finish in the sixth spot while Michael Kloos and Brent Kreke finished seventh and eighth after having to run the B Main to make the starting field. Brant Kehrer and Jim Moon would round out the top ten.

The UMP DIRTcar Modified main event provided one of the most exciting races of the evening. Tim Hancock and Michael Long had the fans on their feet with an epic dual for all twenty laps of the main event. Hancock got the lead at the start of the main event and used the cushion on the high side while Long used the low side and then moved up top to run right in Hancock’s tracks. Lap after lap, Long would pull right up on Hancock for the lead and finally on lap thirteen Hancock would get over the cushion in turn one and the bobble would be just enough to give Long the opportunity to take the lead. Long would lead until the caution flew on lap fifteen. After the restart, the final five laps would be epic. Hancock and Long traded slide jobs at each end of the track with Hancock getting the lead in turns one and two and Long retaking the lead in turns three and four. Long would finally get control of the lead on the last lap and pick up the win. Hancock would finish a close second. Kenny Wallace charge through the field to finish third while Rick Stevenson took fourth. Dane Gundaker rounded out the top five.

Scott Weber dominated the uMP Pro Late Model main event. Weber would check out on the field and take an easy win. Mark Oller would get past Dick Taylor late in the race to finish second while Taylor took third. Brent Kreke would have a solid fourth place finish while he was shaking down the car normally driven by Chad Burks. Aaron Heck would round out the top five.

The Street Stock main event provided another spectacular finish as Jason Worley and Erik Sedlack had side by side battle brewing on the final lap for the win. Worley and Sedlack would make contact down the backstretch which upset the car of Sedlack forcing him to back out of the gas. Worley would go on to victory while Cody Thornhill would also get by Sedlack when he had to lift and finish second. Sedlack would salvage a third place finish. Bobby Silkwood would get the fourth spot while Todd Erickson rounded out the top five.

Jacob Rexing and Vincent Shehorn also had a great battle for the win in the Factory Stock main event. The two battled for the top spot for almost the entire event with Rexing coming out on top. Shehorn would finish second with Trevor Isaak taking third. Andy Jackson would get fourth and Derek Reeves fifth.
