Pontoon Beach, IL – (June 27, 2008) With severe thunderstorms all around the St. Louis area most of Friday afternoon, it appeared Tri-City Speedway was on their way to yet another cancellation. However, the rain completely missed the track as there wasn't even of a sprinkle all day long. With other area tracks cancelled, Tri-City Speedway had a few additional cars on hand.
It was Mid-Season Championship night which meant the top six in track points (driver's that are track members) were locked into the first three rows of the feature. It also meant the winner of the feature in all five divisions were getting a five foot tall trophey as well. Tri-City Speedway was also UMP sanctioned in all five divisions since other area tracks were cancelled.

In the UMP Late Model division, Billy Faust's spectacular season at Tri-City Speedway continued as he won his fourth feature even in seven nights of racing. Faust led all twenty-five laps of the main event, but did have to fend off the challenges of Chad Zobrist on several occassions. Zobrist made the pass for the lead when Faust jumped the cushion on lap eleven, but a caution would slow the field and Faust would regain the lead as scoring would go back to the last completed lap. Zobrist was able to keep it close in the closing laps, especially as they raced in lapped traffic, but Faust was too strong and took the victory. Zobrist would finish second. Tim Manville, who was piloting one of Michael Kloos' machines, came back to a third place finish after falling all the way back to ninth after jumping the cushion early on. Brian Wolfmeier, who was making his first visit of 2008 to Tri-City Speedway, had an impressive outing as he came home with a fourth place finish. Brian Dively completed the top five.

The UMP Modified division provided a spectacular battle for the lead as Bobby Martintoni and Ray Walsh swapped the position around several times in the early laps. Walsh kept battling the tall cushion around the top, jumping over it on several occassions, but the cushion would win the battle in turn one on lap thirteen. Walsh's car would hook the cushion and flip violently end over end as well as side over side at least four times. As the car came to rest on it's wheels, emergency crews tended to Walsh as he was knocked unconscious for several minutes. Walsh would finally clmbed from his machine on his own power, however he would go to the hospital. He suffered a fractured thumb and broken blood vessels in his eye, but was released from the hospital and back home the next morning. Martintoni would go on to win the main event. Tommie Seets, Jr. worked his way through the field to earn a second place finish. Bobby Regot, III had another great outing as he came home third. Regot's great run also helped take his mind off the flooding issues they are having. Their home and race garage are currently inaccessible as flood waters have completely surrounded their home. Sandbags protect their home, but water is just inches away from flowing into their raceshop. However, the highway leading to their house is completely flooded. They are staying with friends and using a friend's shop to race out of. Tim Hancock took the fourth spot and Kyle Byerline finished fifth in the feature. However, after the checkered flag waved, Byerline would run over the left rear wheel of Hancock's car sending Byerline's car into the air and then his car would flip four to five times in turn one. Byerline would walk away uninjured.

Bobby Dauderman dominated the UMP Pro Late Model event. He would go unchallenged as he led all twenty laps of the main event. Casey Montague would have his best run of 2008 as he passed several cars late in the event to come home with a second place finish. Daniel Heck would take the third spot with Tyler Diebert finishing fourth. Diebert also passed several cars in the closing laps to move up to fourth. Gordy Gundaker had another great run as well as he completed the top five.

Josh Jackson got out front at the drop of the green flag and paced all fifteen laps of the UMP Street Stock main event. Last weeks' winner Danny Ems would come home with the second spot. Richie Gabriel took the third position with Andy Beavers finishing fourth and Robby Benson fifth.

Jason Schmidt won his first ever feature event in the UMP 4 Cylinder (Factory Stock) division. Schmidt held off Bob Zbinden early on and then Justin Suhre in the closing laps to earn the victory. Suhre would finish second with Trevor Isaak taking third, Joe Joyce fourth and Travis Horner fifth.
