Craig Smith won the makeup Late Model Feature from 4/2/10! He also won the $$ixth Row Challenge by starting 12th and winning!

Pontoon Beach, IL (April 9th, 2010) A beautiful night weather wise brought out a big field of racecars and a packed grandstands along with another exciting night of racing at Tri-City Speedway! Fans were treated to a couple of extra feature events tonight as the Late Model and Factory Stock features that were rained out last week were made up at the start of tonight’s program.

Last week after Craig Smith won the dash to earn the front row pole starting spot for the main event, he accepted the track’s $$ixth Row Challenge! This meant Smith would have to start on the outside of the sixth row (12th). If Smith could then pull off the win from the 12th starting spot, he would earn double the normal weekly payout for the win! With the Late Model main event being the first event of the evening, the track remained super fast and it was front row starter Billy Faust jumping out to the early lead at the drop of the green flag. Faust’s early lead would be short lived as second row starter Tim Ratajczyk had his car on a rail and powered past Faust on lap three for the lead. Ratajczyk would proceed to open up a 8-car length lead over Faust until the caution waved on lap nine. Unfortunately for Ratajczyk, the caution was for him as he got together with the lapped car of Dickie Phillips which sent Ratajczyk hard into the outside wall in turn one and ended his night. Meanwhile Smith was on the move as he had charged up into the top five by the time this caution flew. With Ratajczyk sidelined, that turned the lead back over to Faust who looked like he was well on his way to victory. As the laps began to wind down, Smith finally got the second spot from Mark Voigt and a late race caution allowed Smith to get a restart directly behind Faust with six laps remaining. Smith and Faust would race side-by-side for a couple of laps before Smith would finally make the pass going into turn three. However, Faust would challenge Smith back as Smith used the low side, Faust took his machine to very top up against the wall and on the final lap coming out of turn four Smith was just barely able to hold off Faust at the line by less than a car-length. Smith earned $2,400 for taking the $$ixth Row Challenge win. Chad Zobrist would finish third with Voigt fourth and Tim Manville fifth!

Billy Faust wasn’t to be denied in the second Late Model event! Faust led all twenty-five laps to take the win as the race went flag-to-flag without a caution. Rick Salter had a great run to finish in the second spot. Chad Zobrist once again took the third position with Jeff Beyers taking fourth and Mark Voigt completed the top five.

Mike Harrison took the $$ixth Row Challenge in the Modified division as well. Harrison elected to start 12th instead of on the pole in order to have a chance to double the payout if he could pull off the win. Rick Conoyer took the lead at the drop of the green flag and had his hands full with challenge after challenge for the top spot. Bobby Regot III provided the early pressure for the lead, then it was Tommie Seets, Jr.’s turn to battle Conoyer for the lead. Conoyer was able to hold off both contenders as they battled him for the first ten laps for the top spot. Then it was Ray Walsh’s turn to battle Conoyer for the top spot. Walsh, who was piloting a brand new racecar that he had just finished preparing late Friday evening and didn’t make it to the racetrack until around 7:30pm, used the middle groove to challenge Conoyer for the lead. The two raced side-by-side for several laps with Conoyer just hanging on each lap. A caution with just four laps remaining setup a classic finish. When the green flag fell for the restart, the field would be lined up with Conoyer leading, Walsh second, Seets third and Harrison fourth. As they entered turn one, Walsh once again went to the middle line to try and get to the outside of Conoyer. Seets used the low line to move in right on the rear bumper of Conoyer. Harrison took the big gamble and went all the way to the top sending sparks off the wall as he powered down the backstretch. As they came out of turn two it was Conoyer still leading with Seets, Walsh and Harrison going three wide for the second spot. Harrison’s momentum around the high side sent him into second as they went into turn three and Harrison continued to power around the top and as he exited turn four he took the lead from Conoyer. Harrison would lead the remaining three laps to take the win! Conoyer would hang on for second with Walsh taking third. Seets would finish fourth and Regot completed the top five.

Andy Beavers would dominate the Street Stock main event. Beavers led all fifteen laps to take the victory. A great battle for second between Creg Cannon, Jimmy Bell, Tommy Gaither and Richie Gabriel as the four swapped around positions lap after lap. Jimmy Bell would take the second position at the finish line with Cannon finishing third. Gaither would finish fourth and Gabriel completed the top five. A big crash at the start would end with Michael Jefferies car on top of A.J. Cline’s car. Both drivers were uninjured.

Jordan Suhre powered his way to win both Factory Stock main events. Suhre and Jason Schmidt battled for the lead in both main events with Suhre coming out on top in both!
