Pontoon Beach, IL (June 19, 2009) With the UMP Summer Nationals getting rained out at Farmer City Raceway, Shannon Babb made the three hour treck south to Tri-City Speedway to get a little testing in before the UMP Summer Nationals visits Tri-City Speedway next Wednesday, June 24th. Babb's night got off to a good start when he drew a front row starting spot for the first heat race. Babb proceeded to dominate the heat race and won by a full straight-away. However, Mark Voigt from Marine, Illinois came prepared to protect his home turf and Voigt won his heat race as well. Babb would get the edge by winning the dash, setting up a front row for the main event with Babb on the pole and Voigt on the outside. Voigt got the lead at the drop of the green flag and Babb gave chase. Lap after lap Babb would pull along side Voigt through the corners, but Voigt would get a great run exiting the corners and would power back ahead of Babb down the straight-aways. This went on for almost every single lap of the twenty-five lap main event. Babb tried every line possible entering the corners and through the corners, but every lap Voigt would pull ahead down the straight-away. Voigt would take the victory with Babb a very close second. Chad Zobrist charged through the field after starting fifteenth in the main event to finish third. That feat earned Zobrist the STLRacing.com Hard Charger Award Bonus of $200. Rickey Frankel took the fourth spot. Everette Bradham, who was making his debut at Tri-City Speedway in the Super Late Model division had a great run and finished in the fifth spot.

Tommie Seets, Jr. of Alton, Illinois led all twenty laps of the Modified main event to earn the victory. An intense battle for the second spot between Rusty Griffaw, Marty Smith, Jr. and Matt Goulden raged on for most of the twenty lap event with the three of them swapping the positions around on multiple occassions. In the end, it was Smith claiming the second spot with Griffaw taking third. Goulden would take the fourth spot with Joe Dresch rounding out the top five.

The Street Stock division, just as they have all season, provided another four to five car battle for the top spot. Andy Beavers led the first ten laps of the main event, but had intense pressure for the top spot from multiple drivers and it was Richie Gabriel who would find his way past him using the middle groove. Gabriel then fended off Beavers and several other drivers to pick up the win. Beavers would hang on to the second spot with Tommy Gaither finishing third. Tommy Gegg took the fourth spot with Jim Bell rounding out the top five.

Bob Zbinden claimed yet another Factory Stock victory. Zbinden and Rob Shaw battled wheel-to-wheel, rubbing fenders for the top spot during the entire distance of the main event. Zbinden was able to hold off Shaw and take the win. Justin Shaw would finish third behind Rob Shaw with Jason Suhre taking fourth and Jordan Suhre fifth.

The UMP Pro Late Model main event was rained out as showers moved over the speedway after a crash on the opening lap brought out the red flag. Several cars got together entering turn three causing three cars to spin together as they entered the turn, while two others crashed into the outside wall. As the three cars spun, the car of Steve Long, Jr. hit head on with the spun car of Charlie Heck. However, Long's car proceeded to ramp completely over the top of Heck's car. It appeared almost as a stunt scene with a car jumping a ramp as Long's car landed completely past Heck's car. Both of those drivers were okay, but B.J. Seets who was another one of the three cars that spun needed assistance for an injured hand/wrist. The race was red flag while he was tended to. During the red flag, the rain started.
